The Association of Clinical Psychologists UK offers a confidential self-referral service for senior medical staff, clinical team leaders and senior management to provide one-to-one psychological support for those impacted by their frontline work with COVID-19 or other work-related pressures. Consultants and team leaders may also value a single consultation about their team’s functioning or a team member causing concern.

We know that medical and senior leader colleagues can experience distress related to the burden of responsibility they hold. We also know that to have these experiences is entirely understandable in the context of  senior roles. We would like to support our colleagues by providing an opportunity to maintain emotional well-being and promote a positive and proactive approach to health self-awareness.

Clinical psychologists have training and expertise in evidence-based psychological support for a range of difficulties. They are skilled in recognising and supporting acute stress in the context of unusual demands, such as those experienced in hospitals and wards impacted by COVID-19. They can also help with problems and reactions such as anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, burnout, and the demands of managing complex team dynamics. They offer a confidential, expert ear and informed strategies to help with a wide range of issues. You will be paired with a senior or consultant grade clinical psychologist. Please be assured that our members are all registered practitioner clinical psychologists who are regulated and adhere to strict standards of confidentiality. We specialise in offering the additional confidentiality of introducing you to a clinical psychologist outside your organisation or region.

Since May 2020 we have provided many of these sessions free of charge or with the generous funding of certain NHS organisations. Some places are still funded by employers but most will now need to be self-funded so that we can recompense our clinical psychology team members for their time.
