ACP-UK is saddened by the death of the Queen and offers condolences to the Royal Family and anyone experiencing loss and grief at this time. While the clinical psychology profession includes a spectrum of attitudes toward the monarchy, we all recognise that the Queen commanded the deep respect and admiration of the majority of the public including our colleagues, clients, patients, friends and relatives. ACP-UK expresses its admiration for someone who embodied the values of integrity, compassion, loyalty and lifelong commitment to the people of the UK regardless of class, ethnicity, faith, gender or sexuality.

ACP-UK recognises that for many, the Queen represented a major foundation of their existential world and some will be experiencing a degree of perhaps, unexpected instability and loss of mooring. These effects may well impact mental health in the community and we advise healthcare services and clinicians to be sensitive to such phenomena. ACP-UK supports opportunities for community expressions of grief and loss and the public commemoration of a remarkable life of service to the people of the UK and commonwealth.
