Scotland Nation Group

Home / Member Networks / Scotland Nation Group

All those living or working in Scotland are automatically members of the Scotland Nation Group. We have a Scotland Advisory Group made up of members who meet regularly to support the Scotland Nation Group in achieving its purpose which is:

  • To provide strategic direction and leadership to pursue the vision of ACP-UK – being a strong voice for clinical psychologists in Scotland.
  • Act for the good of clients and communities by promoting, publicising, supporting and developing clinical psychology and clinical psychologists in Scotland.
  • Align with the values of ACP-UK in being bold, ethical and member led.

The Scotland Advisory Group of the ACP-UK to produces a 6 monthly newsletter (January and July) to update all our Scottish members on what is happening locally but also on any national developments which may be of interest. Please do get in touch if you have anything you would like to discuss. The success of ACP-UK (and specifically in Scotland) relies on our membership and we would be delighted to hear from you – whether this be something you would like us to do or something that you would like us to support.

Fiona Summers

ACP-UK Director for Scotland

The Scotland Advisory Group Representatives

We endeavour to have two ACP-UK reps from each health board area in Scotland, two reps from independent practice, two reps from each of the clinical psychology training courses in Scotland and one Expert by Experience (with access to others as required).

The ACP-UK Director for Scotland, Fiona Summers, is also a member of the Advisory Group and represents the ACP-UK at the Heads of Psychology (Scotland) meetings.  The Advisory Group also has links with the two Scottish clinical psychology training courses. We have a rep with the specific remit of considering equality and diversity within our conversations and direction, ensuring we are mindful of the needs of all our members and clients. One Advisory Group member also has responsibility for liaison with The Buzz editorial team ensuring that issues pertaining to Scotland are reflected in the content. We also have members who are not part of the Advisory Group but represent us on other groups such as the member networks and bespoke pieces of work such as working groups and consultations.

Mentoring Scheme for members considering applying senior posts

We are delighted to announce that we have set up a mentoring system in Scotland for all those who are considering applying for senior posts.  This was initially prompted by member concerns that psychologists from minority ethnic backgrounds face particular challenges in securing promoted posts and are under-represented at more senior levels in our profession.  We have a number of those in 8c or above positions who are willing to act as mentors (please get in touch if you are interested in these roles). The scheme will attempt to match the needs of the mentee with the mentor, for example clinical area, similar experiences and challenges, or different geographical area. If you wish to be paired with a mentor please contact us on [email protected]
