So far, we have undertaken a range of actions which include:

  • Developing a position statement with ACP-UK which supports the view that non-violent protest against climate breakdown should be seen as compatible with the values underpinning clinical psychology and healthcare.
  • Professor Mike Wang, the Chair of ACP-UK has engaged with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) who are responsible for regulating various healthcare professionals, to encourage them to recognise that arrests for non-violent direct action undertaken on moral grounds should not constitute professional misconduct.
  • ACP-UK has become a member of the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change (UKHACC) to support other health care organisations in working for changes in health care systems and services.
  • We have hosted various seminars.
  • We ran a social media campaign in the build up to COP-26 to promote engagement with the crisis within the profession.
  • We have written ‘rapid responses’ to climate issues including
    • A challenge to the decision to expand Bristol Airport.
    • The importance of avoiding framing climate distress as a ‘problem; to be addressed at the individual level.
    • The outcome of COP26
  • We made a banner and were a visible presence attending the Extinction Rebellion Protest in Central London, April 2022.

There are many ways of taking action and we are keen to do more with your help.
