Home / Member Networks / Children, Young People and Families / Children, Young People and Families Network September Update

Dear all,

We have only a short update for this month as we take time to enjoy some leave.

September is a time for many services to regroup and plan for the academic year. With this in mind, we are holding our first cup network working group on the 7th September The meeting is for people willing to be active within the development of the young people’s network. Our first meeting will be around developing, assigning and agreeing key roles within the network and working on the network’s terms of reference which influence what the network does over the coming year. This meeting is to continue momentum of an earlier meeting with members. If you would like to be involved, please do get in touch.

In terms of achievements and progress this month, you may have may have seen that the ACP put out a consultation on the Children’s care review in July and August. We are incredibly grateful for Dr Miriam Silver’s work on this. Dr Silver has now submitted the response and we hope that her work, with your contribution makes the significant impact that is needed.

Below is information we have been asked to share regarding a New programme on keyworking for children and young people with a learning disability, autism or both.

Best wishes

Ellie and Sam

New programme on keyworking for children and young people with a learning disability, autism or both now available

Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has worked with Pathways Associates to develop a new elearning programme on keyworking services for children and young people with a learning disability, autism or both.

Keyworking services support children and young people who are at risk of admission, or have been admitted to a mental health hospital, and their families. This programme has been developed to support keyworking teams across England to understand the fundamentals that underpin keyworking, such as culture, values and co-production.

The resource, which has been co-produced with parents and young people, will equip newly appointed keyworkers with the essential knowledge to deliver consistency in keyworking across England. The service works across health, social care and education and this resource provides information for keyworkers at all levels on the following topics:

  • Foundations for Keyworking
  • Human Rights Approaches
  • Understanding the System

The elearning has been designed to help keyworkers chart the most beneficial path for their work with children, young people and families. As the journey of keyworking develops, new knowledge and learning will shape future iterations of this resource.

It is mandatory for all appointed keyworkers to complete this programme as part of their induction, in addition to participating in local and national skills-based training programmes.

For more information and to access the resource, please visit the Keyworking for Children and Young People with a Learning Disability, Autism or Both programme page
