Is the Community Mental Health Transformation Agenda fit for purpose for older people?

Structured Clinical Management and Older People. A Joint ACP-UK and FPOP event.

The Community Mental Health Transformation Agenda is gathering pace in England, both in terms of new systems and services and also the opportunity for new and different clinical interventions becoming available for service users.  This work, as a result of the NHS Plan, explicitly states these changes apply to older adult mental health services as well as those services for younger working age adults.

A core part of this transformation work is about increasing access to psychological therapies and interventions for people using community mental health services and Health Education England is currently funding training in a range of therapeutic approaches to support this development.  This webinar focuses on Structured Clinical Management (SCM), an intervention designed for individuals who may be given a diagnosis of personality disorder.  We consider the evidence base for this approach with older people, what SCM in working age adult services looks like, what adaptations may be required for its use with older people and the opportunities and challenges that surround this.

This webinar is available, free of charge for all who would want to know more about SCM and its use with older people and who wish to be involved in a national community of practice in this area.

The event was jointly organized by the Older People Network of the ACP-UK and the Faculty of the Psychology of Older People, BPS.
